Civics Mentor-Teacher Program

Summer and Fall 2009

The Florida Joint Center for Citizenship is offering an intensive civics mentor-teaching professional development program August 3 – September 13, 2009. Through a residential program and on-line coursework, participants will explore the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in civics, American government content and related pedagogy. Faculty in political science and social science education from the University of Florida, the University of Central Florida and the University of South Florida will lead the program. Teachers from partnering districts in Volusia, Orange, Hillsborough, and Pinellas counties will participate.

Teachers who successfully complete this program will become Teaching Associates of the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship and will serve as a civics education mentor-teacher for their school districts.

The Civics Mentor-Teacher program will be offered through the generous support of the Florida Department of Education and the Helios Education Foundation.
